Thanks to a generous donation, we have been able to begin construction of our Community Center and Market!

Our immediate goal is to get the roof,
doors and windows in place so the building
will be secure for the winter.

An architecural intern from
the State of Washington had
contacted us earlier about
helping us get a design in
place and hopefully obtain a
grant for construction.
In addition, she has now
obtained a local architect
who is donating her time
to draft up the plans
for our buildings.

Mark, his wife and other family and friends have already gutted the interior.  Our contractor has framed out the handicapped restroom and kitchen.  The roof is being repaired now.

Our thanks to our benefactor, who wishes to remain anonymous, for allowing us to begin work on what we hope will be a focal point for change in our community.  We will keep posting progress pictures as work gets done.

2nd Annual SuperBowl Party

Sunday, February 7th
starting at 5:00pm
8902 Vinton (corner of Georgia St)

Thanks to the work that has been done on the Community Center and Store buildings,
we are able to at least get the party out of the weather this year.
We will be showcasing all the work that has been done so far during the party.
Visitors will be able to tour the Community Center before and during the game.

All proceeds from the party and any other activities that night
will go directly into the Building Fund
to help complete the Community Center and Store.

We will have heaters inside the store and give it our best
"party atmosphere".  We hope to have the temperature
comfortable, but you might want to bring a
sweater or vest to wear just in case it's a little cool

As a thank you for donations, visitors will be served
hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, chicken wings,
chips, pretzels, pop and beer.

Ticket/Donations in advance are $12.00 per person

Ticket/Donations at the door will be $15.00 per person

Mark Covington in the Movies!

Philip Lauri,
(who is a member of the Board of Directors of Georgia Street Community Collective),
in conjunction with some other people, has created a film about Detroit.
Mark Covington is featured in the film.  See it here:

and for those that view the film and enjoy it,
please "vote it up" with the green button next to the viewing window
so that we can make a run at getting it on TV.

Thanks!
